DALLAS, TX. (Top40 Charts/ John A Lewis Trio) The Jazz in the
Atrium Series at the Dallas Museum of Art will be presenting The John A Lewis Trio on Thursday, October 23rd from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
The Jazz in the
Atrium series is a long-running concert series that presents jazz every
Thursday in the atrium of the Dallas Museum of Art located at 1717 North Harwood in downtown Dallas. The series is hosted and coordinated by Betsy Glickman.
The John A Lewis Trio consists of pianist and composer John A Lewis, bassist Lincoln Apeland and drummer Merik Gillett. The trio has been performing together for over five years. They have performed in concert at such venues as The Sammons Center of the Arts, The South Dallas Cultural Center, The Sandaga 813
Music Emporium, The
Carrollton Jazz Festival and previously Jazz in the Atrium, plus jazz clubs and restaurants throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
The trio will be performing music from their two critically acclaimed recordings "Progenation," which Jazz Inside Magazine describes as "hypnotically pleasant," along with "One Trip Out," which The Birmingham Times calls "pure jazz with meaningful swing," and Bebop
Spoken Here describes as "meaningful originality." "One Trip Out" recently reached number eight on the CMJ jazz chart.
The music is composed by the trio's pianist and leader John A Lewis. "John follows in the tradition of Horace Silver, Monk Herbie Nichols and Elmo Hope. John's tunes are original and interesting in structure," describes Composer and Educator
Roger Boykin.
"The style of the music ranges from straight ahead jazz with a Monkish inclination to a sixtyish Milesish leaning and also tunes with a Latin tinge. The trio performs in a fluent, fastidious style. The music is compelling but always accessible. The trio is committed to developing a distinctive style," says
James Stapleton of KNON radio.
