Excelsior, MN. (Top40 Charts) Alex Ligertwood, the lead singer for
Santana from 1979-1994 and Fran Cosmo, lead singer for
Boston from 1990-2005 are coming to Excelsior, MN on Friday November 28th to sing classic rock hits, honor friends who passed away recently and to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research at the University of Minnesota. The concert will be held at the Minnetonka Country Club from 7-10:30 pm on Friday November 28th.
"It has been a tough year. It will be good for us to get together for some musical healing." said Alex Ligertwood, recognized as the "voice of Santana". "We lost
Fergie Frederksen (former Toto lead singer) and Jimi Jamison (Survivor lead singer) recently and we miss them so much. To honor their memory and also raise money for a killer disease like Pancreatic Cancer was a perfect fit."
Ligertwood is no stranger to Minnesota, as he has performed in the annual Pancreatic Cancer concert in the past with Frederiksen and Jamison. The cause has united other rock legends as well who have converged to Excelsior, MN the last two years. This third annual benefit concert also features Fran Cosmo, former lead singer of
Boston from 1990-2005. "I wanted to be there," said Cosmo. "I loved those guys (Frederiksen and Jamison) and I changed my plans so I could support this concert." When flight arrangements were being made for Cosmo, who lives in New York and Ligertwood, who lives in California, they both compromised Thanksgiving with their families to arrive in Minnesota a day earlier to sound check and better prepare for this musical event.
Those attending will hear the classic hits that Ligertwood sang lead for
Santana such as "
Black Magic Woman", "Winning", "
Evil Ways". "
Oye Como Va" "
Hold On" and more. Fran Cosmo will sign lead on
Boston classics "More Then a Feeling", "Peace of Mind", "
Long Time", "Smokin", "
Don't Look Back" and more. The band Headliner will back both musicians. Headliner has backed many national lead singers in the recent past, including Jimi Jamison (Survivor),
Fergie Ferderiksen (Toto), and more.
