Music Association/ www.CMAworld.com) - Country
Music icon/actor/innovator and songwriter Kris Kristofferson will be formally inducted into the Country
Music Hall of Fame during a star-studded performance on "The 38th Annual CMA Awards" live on the CBS Television Network Tuesday, Nov. 9 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville. CMA announced that superstar
Faith Hill and Hall of Fame member Willie
Nelson would take part in the tribute to Kristofferson.
"Kris Kristofferson has an incredible body of work as a songwriter and performer," said CMA Executive
Director Ed Benson. "He is very deserving of this honor and recognition during the CMA Awards. The challenge was narrowing a lifetime of contributions he has made to this industry to a representative sampling of his work."
Kristofferson has a long relationship with the CMA Awards. He has received seven CMA Award nominations and one win for Song of the Year in 1970 for "Sunday Morning Coming Down." Kristofferson hosted the annual gala two times - with Anne Murray in 1985 and again in 1986 this time with Willie Nelson. In 2003, Kristofferson participated in a tribute to the late Johnny Cash.
Educator and former music industry executive Jim Foglesong will also be formally inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame during the broadcast. Foglesong is to be inducted in the "Non-Performer" category, which is awarded every third year, while Kristofferson will be inducted in the annual "Open" category. All inductees are chosen by CMA's Hall of Fame panel of electors, consisting of more than 300 anonymous voters appointed by the CMA Board of Directors. Foglesong and Kristofferson will become the 91st and 92nd members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
