MIAMI BEACH, FL. (Satelite Musical Magazine) - For a year, starting on November 2003 and throughout 2004, Miami-based music e-zine Satelite Musical has been monitoring 11 Latin American countries (Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Argentina) and Latin communities in the U.S. in order to make a 12-month chart based on Hispanic preferences and trends in the pop/rock and urban scenes, including non-Hispanic acts and newcomers.
As a result, Mexican singer/songwriter Aleks Syntek and ex-Mecano Ana Torroja emerged leading the most popular songs with "Duele El Amor", followed by Colombian Juanes, chart-topping 11 countries simultaneously last October with a 70s pop-inflected song called "Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor" from his third solo album "Mi Sangre", leaving behind Latin star Paulina Rubio with her catchy "Te Quise Tanto".
In the international urban scene Nelly, Eminem and Usher became the most requested artists with "My Place", "Just Lose It" and "Yeah!" respectively. On the other side, in the Latin urban field Puerto Rican Don Omar with "La Batidora", a song called "Papi Te Quiero" by Reggaeton pioneer Ivy Queen and "Gasolina" from the top-selling Latin Record "Mi Barrio" by Daddy Yankee led their music genre.
Canadian pop/punk singer/songwriter Avril Lavigne's "Happy Ending" turned into the most popular song by a non-Hispanic number, followed by "She Will Be Loved" performed by Maroon 5 and "Let's Get Started" by the multi-cultural foursome The Black Eyed Peas.
Latin artists close to be part of the Top 10 were Puerto Rican Chayanne, Spanish pop/rock band La Oreja de Van Gogh, Colombian Carlos Vives, Spaniard David Bisbal and Argentine singer/songwriter Diego Torres.
International pop/rock stars Robbie Williams, Blink 182, U2 and Hilary Duff were about to make it on the non-Hispanic acts chart.
