Carl Thomas mourns the untimely death of his beloved eldest brother Duranthony "Randy" Evans - an innocent victim of "Urban Terrorism, in America."
On Sunday, October 31, 2004, 34-year-old Duranthony "Randy" Evans died execution-style in a random drive-by shooting in Aurora IL. Incidentally, Randy Evans was the second fatality of eight random shootings that Halloween evening. Curiously, all of the reported shootings occurred in consecutive half hour intervals, leaving the undermanned Aurora, Illinois Police and other emergency personnel overwrought and discombobulated.
The Community speaks as East Aurora Schools Spokesman Bro. Clayton A. Muhammad notes: "There is a great divide between African-American and Latino youth, schools, businesses, and the Aurora community at large." Rev. Jesse Hawkins, Senior Pastor of the St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, sounds off, "We condemn the senseless violence that resulted in the untimely departure of our dear brother."
Duranthony "Randy" Evans was an Elder of the Greater Mount Olive Church of God In Christ, husband, father of two and Youth Supervisor for the St. Charles Correctional Facility, yet was targeted unjustly like many others before him. Unfortunately, unlikely suspects like Randy Evans are all too common in Aurora, Illinois. There were 18 murders committed in Aurora in 2004 alone, the majority African-American males, victimized and civilly violated.
Carl Thomas' riposte to the great divide is the establishment of the Duranthony Evans Foundation. The Duranthony Evans Foundation is an initiative to foster an African-American and Latino common understanding. Carl states, "The Duranthony Evans foundation is a much needed bridge to expose civil injustice caused by a social imbalance. And, I believe that the 14th and 15th amendments mean just as much to us now in 2004, as they did for the brave men and women who fought for the amendments commencing and continual existence."
While we sit and examine a far removed vision of terrorism in a far away land, Aurora's African-American fraction lives with a daily all too real tangible war against "Urban Terrorism."
There is one police officer to every ten thousand people left to protect the community of Aurora, often their civil rights are dishonored by violent acts committed against them with no recourse, fellow African-Americans and Latinos express distrust and trepidation toward one another, ultimately yielding to pointless violence ensued on innocent community hopefuls cut short in their prime.
Carl Thomas, the Duranthony Evans Foundation, Aurora Citizens, and all of the "Voiceless Victims," respectfully request all media outlets to participate in shedding light on America's war on "Urban Terrorism" in Aurora, Illinois, and others of the like.
