MIAMI, FL. (Univision Network/ www.univision.net) - Ten years after Selena's final concert there, the City of Houston,
Texas will play host to the largest gathering of international superstars of the recording industry ever assembled to pay homage to
the late Queen of Tex-Mex music during a three-hour gala spectacular to be broadcast LIVE from the Reliant Stadium exclusively on the Univision Television Network, April 7, 2005.
Since her tragic death in 1995, Selena Quintanilla continues to live in the hearts and minds of Hispanic America through her music and indomitable spirit. Working closely with the Quintanilla family, Univision is assembling an unprecedented roster of the biggest stars in the music world, including Gloria Estefan, Thalia, Pepe Aguilar, Carlos Vives, Banda el Recodo, Alicia Villareal, Aleks Syntek, Lucero, Ana Gabriel, Intocable and the Kumbia Kings, who will perform Selena's music in a heartfelt celebration of her life. Live coverage of this historic event will begin with the arrival and red-carpet entrance of the performers, celebrities and other VIPs in the hour preceding the tribute.
Univision and the Quintanilla family will take part in a press conference announcing more concert details at the Reliant Stadium on February 3, 2005, at 2:30pm CT.
The city of Houston was chosen to host this historic event, as it was the site of Selena's last concert in front of over 69,000 of her devoted fans in the Astrodome. "Houston is proud to host this tribute to the memory of Selena, a great entertainer and a role model for so many," said Mayor Bill White. "We can hardly believe it has been so long since she left us, but we are excited to help celebrate her life and her spirit."
Speaking from his home in Corpus Christi, Selena's father Abraham Quintanilla expressed his feelings regarding the concert stating, "I promised to keep my daughter's memory alive through her music. And now, ten years later, this event is a fitting celebration of not only her music, but her life, as well."
"Selena...A 10th Anniversary Tribute" will air live from 8-11pm ET (7-10pm Central) on April 7, 2005, only on Univision, America's leading Spanish-language television network. Information on how to buy tickets to the concert will be made available in the coming weeks.
