SYDNEY, Australia (Sony
Music Australia) - It's one of the world's biggest public-voted music polls and thanks to YOU guys, Franz Ferdinand's rump-shaking, dancefloor murdering debut cut of rock brilliance, 'Take Me Out', has taken out the No 1 spot on the Triple J Hottest 100 list!! Yee-haw!!
It's one of the biggest public-voted music polls in the world and an annual event almost as huge and sacred in this nation as Australia Day itself...it's the Triple J Hottest 100 list and thanks to YOU guys, Franz Ferdinand have scored a (well-deserved) coup and taken out the hotly contested No 1 spot for the Best Song of 2004 with their undeniably brilliant debut single, 'Take Me Out'! And in a bizarre twist to top off the massive show of recognition from fans, 'Take Me Out' appeared not ONCE but TWICE in the Top 50, with the Scissor Sister's awesome cover of the song storming into No 44 position on the list!
Music lovers from around the country (and the world) cast more than 460,000 votes in this year's Hottest 100, broadcast on JJJ live from the Sydney Big Day Out yesterday, with two more songs from the Scot rockers debut self-titled album also flying into high rankings - Franz's current Oz single 'This Fffire' ripped in at No 29 while their infectious disco burner 'Dark Of The Matinee' scored No 50 on the list.
When JJJ presenters Chris and Craig called lead singer Alex Kapranos to deliver the good news on air, Kapranos was left a little lost for words when he realised they had done *slightly* better than just make it into the list's Top 10.
"Really?? Oh my goodness!! No Way?? That's amazing! I feel so flattered - thank you very much," a sincerely blown away Alex managed to squeeze out. "Thanks a lot for voting everyone - we really appreciate it!"
Australia's premier alternative radio network Triple J have been hosting the Hottest 100 countdown since 1989, with millions of individual votes counted since it's inception. Joy Division topped the first Hottest 100 with the classic 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', while Nirvana, Queens Of The Stone Age, Powderfinger and Jet have also taken out the coveted top spot over the years.
We said it when it first hit our ears and we're glad everyone is now unanimous that 'Take Me Out' is one of the most innovative, delicious, catchiest and bloody brilliant rock singles to emerge in 2004!!
HUGE CONGRATS FRANZ - WE LUV YA!!!
PS. Props also go out to Franz fans and a band Franz loves just as much, Modest Mouse, who snatched the No 11 spot for the single 'Float On'...rockin!
