NEW
YORK (SOULSA announcement) - Rocking with their powerful sound and
original lyrics, SOULSA will be playing live at Bronx's latest Latin
Alternative hot spot Ibiza on Thursday, February 10, 2005.
"An
urban voice that grows...". Those are the words that El Diario, the
largest Spanish language newspaper in New York City used to describe
Soulsa.
Soulsa is a LATIN ROCK group made up of five New Yorkers
from different musical backgrounds. The group brings a new yet powerful
mix of rock while maintaining the traditional Afro-Puerto Rican and
Cuban rhythms of salsa. A good idea, considering the fact that today's
Latin music is expanding in all different directions all over the
country and abroad. The group was formed in 2002 in Washington Heights,
NY. A neighborhood known for its embrace of Latin music.
Soulsa
contains all the energy of a rock group combined with the sensuality
and elegance of today's salsa bands. A blend that moves your soul and
your body. This pleases the public of all ethnic backgrounds who are
tired of the same style of music and ready to embrace something fresh.
The absence of piano and brass manages to give the band a less
traditional/typical sound, while the guitar brings that explosive edge.
The original lyrics written by Lead guitarist/singer Alberto Diaz and
bass player/background vocalist Luis Batista are raw and poetic. Truly
the voice that represents the daily lives of Latinos.
Soulsa has
played in various clubs in New York City, Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens
such as Nuyorican
Poets Caf, Southpaw, D'Antigua, China Club and
Gonzalez & Gonzalez. They have also performed at private events for
Oscar de la Renta, VOGUE magazine,
Havana Film Festival and Time Warner
Inc. In addition, Soulsa was invited to perform at BMI's "Latin Lingo"
music showcase for Latin Alternative bands. And frankly SOULSA stole
the show.
