
NASHVILLE, TN. (Word Records) - The Gospel
Music Association recently announced the nominees for the 36th Annual GMA
Music Awards, where Word Records' artists garnered seventeen nominations. Best-selling rock group Building 429 led the label with four nominations including the categories of "Song of the Year," "New Artist of the Year," "Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year," and "Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year." The nominations continue the massive success the group has seen since its debut in 2004.
Six-time Dove Award winner and two-time GRAMMY Award nominee Nicole C. Mullen was nominated for "Female Vocalist of the Year" and received a nomination for "Urban Album of the Year" for her most recent release, Everyday People. Acclaimed male vocalist David Phelps received two nominations, one for "Inspirational Song of the Year" and the other for "Inspirational Album of the Year," both stemming from his critically acclaimed debut for Word Records, Revelation. Mark Schultz was also honored with two nominations, "Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year," and "Short Form Music Video of the Year," for his stirring radio hit "Letters From War."
In advance of one of 2005's most anticipated releases, new Teleprompt/Word band Mute Math was honored with a nomination in the category of "Modern Rock Recorded Song of the Year" for their first radio single, "Control." Gospel greats Tedd and Sheri were included as one of the nominees for this year's "Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year," while Randy Travis and Billy Ray Cyrus received recognition for "Country Album of the Year," and "Country Song of the Year" respectively. Additionally, Australian praise and worship group Planetshakers was nominated for this year's "Praise and Worship Album of the Year."
Multi-platinum, Dove and GRAMMY Award-winning female vocalist Amy Grant was included as a nominee for her contribution to the Christmas project, Gloria, while Sixpence None the Richer received a nomination for their work on 2004's In The Name of Love.
