SYDNEY, Australia (Sony BMG Australia) - Jazz & blues chanteuse Katie Melua shot from virtual obscurity to a No 1 UK megastar in 2004, thanks to her brilliant debut album 'Call Off The Search', which has now sold over 80,000 copies here. Don't miss her live in concert with full band this May!
Georgian-born, Belfast-raised and now London-based, Katie Melua is a jazz & blues chanteuse with talent to burn and a voice and songs to melt any heart. With a maturity and worldliness that belie her tender years, the guitar and piano playing songstress has taken the world by storm with her endearing personality, sultry looks and accomplished performances.

In an extraordinary success story, Katie's debut album 'Call Off the Search' was the biggest selling album in the UK in 2004 (sales are now in excess of 1.8 million), holding the No 1 UK chart position for 6 weeks and was still gracing the Top 20 more than 6 months after release.

The album reached five times Platinum status within five months of release and replaced first Dido and then Norah Jones as the UK No 1. Her debut single 'The Closest Thing To Crazy' - a divine torch song backed by swirling orchestration - had Australians falling under Katie's spell and propelled her album to more than 80,000 sales here.

But if you like her album, you'll love her live performance even more...on stage is where you get to see and hear the true power and versatility of her vocal talents; from haunting ballads to upbeat jazz numbers she possesses a voice that sends shivers down your spine - something we all got a first-hand taste of when she came here for a promo tour and series of showcases last year.

Touring with her own five-piece band, including her producer and label head, Mike Batt, Katie Melua will make the first of no doubt many Australian concert tours in May. After selling out London's Royal Albert Hall in less than three days and appearing at Buckingham Palace, Katie has just toured South Africa as guests of the reformed Queen, appearing with them at hugely successful open air concerts to benefit Nelson Mandela's AIDS relief appeal.
Come and fall under the spell of Katie Melua - tickets on sale Monday, April 11
