NEW YORK (American Youth Symphony announcement) - It's a Hardbop Life, which debuted as a Special Event at the 2004 New York JVC Jazz Festival, is being released on a DVD/AudioCD Set and is the first play to feature a cast of top jazz musicians as actors. The play was written by and stars Howard University graduate, Gregory Charles Royal who was a trombonist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and the Broadway hit, Five Guys Named Moe. The play is about a black college basketball star named Q. and a white suburban jazz singer who cross paths in grade school and then in college and learn some important lessons about the lost black traditions of jazz. The experience of actors performing as a jazz group is a theatre first. Also the idea of releasing a DVD and Soundtrack (with bonus tracks) together, is unique. Cost is about $20.00 US.
