LOS ANGELES (deSol Official Website) - Armed with exceptionally positive response from the media, radio, retailers, concert promoters and the listening public, deSoL has earned an official date with Curb Records for nationwide release of its acclaimed self-titled debut CD.
With the CD's Fall '04 test market release ending so successfully, the Asbury Park, NJ "rock band with a Latin soul" will officially see July 26, 2005 as the national release date of deSoL on Curb. "Karma," the first single, goes for adds at AAA radio April 25, in the wake of the band's "buzz-worthy" (Los Angeles Times) SXSW debut to a packed showcase at Austin, TX's world class music conference.
"We wanted to show people what deSoL is all about," says Curb executive Michael Lloyd, who co-produced and remixed deSoL with the band's manager, Oscar-winning songwriter Franke Previte (Dirty Dancing). "And the proof is here. We were confident people were going to like them, so we simply put it out there in a grassroots way that allowed nothing more than the music and the band to convince them. We're armed with great responses. And now we can use them for our marketing package."
This very special band of seven "brothers" with inherent global appeal is back on the road in 2005 on a six-week nationwide spring tour with the Wailers, followed by major festival appearances at Lollapalooza 2005 and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. deSoL ended 2004 on its first international tour, which included a Mexico City date opening for rock legends R.E.M.
deSoL's vibrant and colorful live show – an infectious, "danceably sweaty" display that forces audience members out of their seats - has been pivotal in seeing the band earn notice in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, New York Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Baltimore Sun, Austin Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Minneapolis Star-Tribune, San Antonio Express-News, Newark Star-Ledger, All Music Guide, Knight-Ridder News Service and Latin Beat among others.
Curb Records, one of the largest independent labels in the world, has firmly dedicated itself to this exhilarating new project following high profile TV and radio performances including New York's CBS 2 This Morning, Boston's Fox 25 Morning News, Detroit's Fox 2 News Morning, Philadelphia's NBC 10 10! show, and CN8's syndicated Your Morning. Listen for the May 5 premiere of deSoL's session with public radio's World Café with David Dye.
deSoL's songs have layer upon layer of hooks, from the obvious to the most subtle places, creating infectious, impassioned music whose romantic melodies are countered by lead singer Albie Monterrosa's clever lyrics, Soto's searing lead guitar and Andy Letke's swirling classic "Hammond B-3" sound. Together, they combine to pull in audiences, while the rest of deSoL propels the world-folk elements and Afro-Cuban rhythms that keep pelvises undulating at every show.
deSoL, the album, represents a lifetime of work, thoughtfully planned over the band's four-year existence. Each member – also percussionists Armando Cabrera and James Guerrero, bassist Chris Guice and drummer George Saccal - brings his own heritage from his individual ancestral bloodline: Cuba, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico and, most importantly, America.
