With Blu Sinatra,
music lovers have the opportunity to experience "Ol' Blue Eyes" as
they've never heard him before - through the powerful, gutsy vocals of
Peggi Blu, a veteran singer who went from church choirs to "Star
Search" grand champion. Blu ventures into the Sinatra song book and
mines classics such as "My Way," "One for the Road," "
That's Life", and
"Mood Indigo", infusing them with funk, passion, soul and even gospel.
Blu
came to New York after a childhood spent singing in church choirs and
touring throughout the Carolinas, establishing herself as a backup
singer for stars such as Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Luther Vandross,
Barbara Streisand, The Staple Singers, Burt Bacharach and Smokey
Robinson. She starred on Broadway in "The Wiz," and released the 1980
album I Got Love with MCA. I Got Love was a modest success, yielding
the single "Dancing in the Streets" which hit number 25 on Billboard's
dance music chart. After her 1986 "Star Search" win, Blu signed with
Capitol Records and released the album Blu Blowin'. The album's most
successful single, "Tender Moments," had an eight-week stay on
Billboard's R&B chart and reached #4 in the UK. Since then Blu has
released two more solo albums, including 2002's Livin' On Love, and has
made appearances on dozens of albums - with artists such as Stephanie
Mills,
Quincy Jones,
Aaron Neville, Phyllis Hyman, Tracy Chapman, Kylie
Minogue and others - and on compilations, movie soundtracks ("Set It
Off," "Fame," "Which Way is Up") and Broadway cast recordings ("The
Wiz," "Bubbling Brown Sugar," "Beehive"). President Clinton requested
her for his inaugural festivities, and, in 2000, Blu performed in one
of the most anticipated musical events ever -- Barbra Streisand's
Millennium Concert in Las Vegas. Peggi recently returned from a
triumphant week-long engagement in Paris, and is featured in a duet
with legendary singer Gerald Alston on the new Manhattan's CD "Even
Now". A live recording CD of "Blu Sinatra" is planned for later this
year.
