LOS
ANGELES (Pacific Coast Jazz) - As Jazz/pop flute stylist and
recording artist Bradley Leighton's new CD, Just Doin' Our Thang
(released nationally May 10, 2005, Pacific Coast Jazz), continues to
garner glowing industry reviews and receive airplay around the country,
Leighton has been busy performing in San Diego, donating his musical
talents to three area fundraising events.
Leighton was
featured as guest artist, May 15 at the KSDS Jazz 88 First Annual "Take
Five Wine Tasting and Auction," and also will be a featured soloist at
the 22nd Annual Women's International Center (WIC) 2005 Living Legacy
Awards Dinner and Fundraising Gala, Saturday, May 21, at the new
Solomar Hotel in San Diego's Gaslamp District. Leighton and friends are
slated to provide music for the San
Diego Fire and Rescue Helicopter
Invitational, June 2 at the Maderas Golf Club.
Held at the
WineSellar & Brasserie in Sorrento Mesa, the "Take Five Wine
Tasting and Auction," raised funds for KSDS Radio, a non-profit public
radio station and featured musical performances by the Jazz 88 AllStars
and guest artists Cynthia Hammond, J.Otis Williams,
David Mosby, Karin
Carson, Claudia Russell, Jeff Dalrymple and Leighton. "The day was both
an artistic and financial success," says Mark DeBoskey, station manager
of KSDS Jazz 88. "It started out being a wine tasting and auction with
jazz and ended up being a fabulous jazz concert with wine tasting and
an auction! Bradley's groove really knocked everyone out. "The event
was hosted by restaurateur Gary Parker. "We're delighted to have had
these great musicians donating their time," adds DeBoskey.
This
year's WIC event, chaired by educator, writer and philanthropist
Marianne McDonald PhD, will honor outstanding humanitarians, both women
and men, with living legacy awards and will raise funds for WIC
education programs. Founded in 1982 by women's advocate and community
leader
Gloria Lane, the non-profit organization's mission is to
celebrate, acknowledge, honor and encourage women and to educate youth.
Co-chaired by philanthropists Sally Thornton and Zona Murray, this
year's event will honor artist and jewelry designer Laurel Burch;
theater critic and arts writer Pat Launer; actress and animal rights
activist Tippi Hedren and Chairwoman of the San
Diego County Board of
Supervisors Pam Slater-Price among others. Musical entertainment will
feature the Benny Hollman Orchestra with vocalist Cynthia Hammond and
special guest soloist Bradley Leighton on flute. "It will be an
incredible evening of tribute and sharing great music and food," says
singer-songwriter Bridget Brigitte, who will be receiving a Spirit
Award at the gala. For reservations contact: 619-295-6446.
Hosted
by the Sunroad Foundation, the third annual San
Diego Fire and Rescue
Helicopter Invitational will be held at the Maderas Golf Club, 17750
Old Coach Road in Poway on Thursday, June 2, beginning with a 9:00 a.m.
shotgun start on the golf course. Individual Player Packages and
Foursome Packages can be purchased which also will include a cocktail
reception from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Proceeds will go to fund the Fire and
Rescue Helicopter program in San Diego. For reservations call:

"It makes me feel really good to be able to donate
my time and musical gifts to help support such worthwhile
organizations," says Leighton. His national tour to support Just Doin'
Our Thang will begin this summer, with dates on the East Coast in June
and July concert dates in the Pacific Northwest.
The prolific
flutist can now be heard locally at Game Time, 12735 Poway Road in
Poway, (858-748-7296) from 7 to 10 p.m., every other Tuesday night.
