New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Congratulations to Pat Metheny, whose new album, From This Place, debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top Album chart - a career best for the guitarist/composer and his first Top 10 album - and at No. 1 on the Current Traditional Jazz Albums chart. Internationally, From This Place premiered at No. 1 on the UK Jazz and Blues chart and in the Top 100 on the overall pop charts in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Japan, France, Belgium, and the UK.
Metheny begins a month-long tour of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin
America with the band featured on From This Place: drummer Antonio Sanchez, Malaysian/Australian bassist
Linda May Han Oh, and British pianist Gwilym Simcock. The tour begins at Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore tonight, then heads to Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Mexico, and Cuba. Metheny returns to the road in May and June to tour
Europe with his Side Eye project with keyboardist
James Francies and drummer Marcus Gilmore, and again in August for a run of trio shows in Norway.
In addition to Sanchez, Oh, and Simcock, Metheny is joined by on the album by the Hollywood Studio Symphony conducted by Joel McNeely and special guests Meshell Ndegeocello (vocals),
Gregoire Maret (harmonica), and Luis Conte (percussion). "A breathtakingly immersive experience that affirms Metheny as a consummate musical storyteller," exclaims Mojo.
