BURBANK, CA (WARNER BROS. RECORDS) - "Picking up where
Metallica left off as the dark savior of metal,
Disturbed continues to blaze new ground in this third-generation permutation of the bombastic genre with its angular, brutal third album, 'Ten Thousand Fists.' Once again, lead singer
David Draiman tackles such life-altering topics as loss, outdated belief, patriotism and faith, but instead of just seething over the problems, he delivers a challenge and a call to action to fans to fight against inertia and moral indolence."
Jaan Uhelzski, San Francisco Chronicle (9/18/05)
Disturbed - one of heavy rock's most commanding and relevant bands - have done it again.
The band's new and third album - the powerful call to arms "Ten Thousand Fists" (Reprise) - has debuted at No 1 on Billboard's Top 200 chart with sales of 238,000. This marks the band's second No 1-charting album, after 2002's "Believe" slammed into the top of the chart, building on the momentum of their triple-platinum debut "The Sickness."
"We've always done things our own way and to have our efforts saluted by our fans is really the ultimate reward," said Disturbed in a joint statement. The dramatic arrival of "Ten Thousand Fists" coincides with the Top 5 active rock single "Stricken," of which frontman DAVID DRAIMAN has noted: "It's about those moments when someone comes into your life and it's almost as if you've been afflicted with a disease you can't get rid of. Devastating and debilitating." Needless to say, this all-encompassing relationship gave birth to an eviscerating song of infernal love, complete with an explosive lead guitar burst from DAN DONEGAN and riveting percussion from MIKE WENGREN. The band filmed the song's video in an abandoned Los Angeles hospital with director Nathan Cox (Queens of the Stone Age, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Linkin Park, Staind). It is highlighted by dynamic performance footage of Disturbed interspersed with a wide range of stirring images.
The buzz on "Ten Thousand Fists" began in July when the band made the song "Guarded" available on iTunes. Although "Guarded" wasn't officially released as a single - the track was offered to specialty metal radio Shows - it vaulted into the Top Ten at Mainstream Rock radio as a result of popular demand. In addition, the album's title track was featured in EA Sports' mega-popular "Madden 2006" football game. Rock fans also got a taste of "Ten Thousand Fists" ahead of its street date when the band debuted songs from it on a frenzied North American summer tour that ran from August 3 to September 18. Next up for Disturbed is a headlining position on the Jägermeister Music Tour. The first leg launches November 4 in Minneapolis, with the band playing multiple nights in intimate venues throughout most of the 32-date trek, giving fans a chance to get closer to what Darryl Morden, writing about their Los Angeles Roxy show in The Hollywood Reporter (8/8/05), described as "Brutal salvos of sonic ammunition aimed at the world and built for a primal scream, true to a credo that life is a struggle without joy, so let's celebrate."
