New York, NY (SWEET FINESSE ENTERTAINMENT, LLC) - The dates of October 28th and 29th in Brooklyn, New York have gone down in history as one of the most prolific recording sessions in the history of gospel music! Over 7,000 attendees, including a Saturday night sell-out crowd witnessed a diverse presentation that was nothing short of spectacular! Gospel Superfest's seventh national TV extravaganza, billed as Gospel Superfest New York-2 broke new ground and set a new standard for gospel music TV production. The event was held at the historic Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, NY pastored by the honorable Dr. A. R. Bernard.
Some of the nation's top artists performed on the elaborately staged set, as Gospel Superfest took a theatrical approach. As mainstream actresses, Vivica A. Fox (Missing – Kill Bill Volumes 1 and 2) and Vanessa Williams (Soul Food the Series) joined Gospel Superfest mainstay host Clifton Davis (Amen) for this star-studded night of music, comedy, dance and celebration. Dancers, mimes, choirs, quartets, soloists and even a retro 50's West Side Story presentation from gospel's most unpredictable performer Tonex, were all a part of this musical explosion.
'Each artist shined and brought their 'A Game' to the table this year!,' said executive producer and founder, Dr. Bobby Cartwright, Jr. 'My thirteen-year-old son and I watched the preview tape of Tye Tribbett and Greater Anointing, and all he kept saying was 'Oh My God! Oh My God! Oh My God!' over and over again. It was unbelievable!'
Co-host Vivica A. Fox says, 'The Gospel Superfest was one of the most inspiring and uplifting events I've ever hosted!'
Hollywood set designer, Rene Lagler and lighting Designer, Jeff Bornstein, teamed up with Cartwright to transform the Christian Cultural Center into a Hollywood theatre look alike, and artists like Rizen, Kurt Carr, Tye Tribbett, Tonex, Ki Ki Sheard, Dorinda Clark Cole, Gary Anglin, Shirley Murdock, Dr. Charles Hayes, Shekinah Glory, James Fortune, Malissa Redmond, Jimmy Hicks, Hezekiah Walker, Natalie Wilson & SOP, The Williams Brothers, Ted & Sheri and many others seized the opportunity to deliver some very unforgettable performances.
Andrea Lewis of the hit female group Rizen, asked the audience, 'What are you looking at? I will give you something to look at.' At that point the threesome broke into a head -shaking segment that resembled a Tina Turner rock concert! Kurt Carr delivered three powerful songs including 'I Will Trust in God' with choreography implemented to perfection.
Each performance thrilled the Brooklyn audience into a level of praise and worship rarely seen at TV recordings. The crowd was brought to its feet several times with multiple standing ovations! Friday Night ended with Dr. Charles Hayes & The Warriors, singing his smash hit 'Jesus Can Work It Out,' with a stage full of the evening's performers. Tonex closed the Saturday night session with a song from his Out of the Box, CD entitled 'Believer' that was filled with celebration.
Actor and show host for six years, Clifton Davis was honored with the show's only award, the coveted Gospel Superfest Lifetime Achievement Award. The producers chose to make the award a surprise and unveiled it Saturday night with a surprise visit by Davis' mom and his entire family. 'Clifton was shocked!' said Dr. Cartwright. 'We worked so hard to make sure he did not know anything, and his wife Monica Davis was in on the whole thing.' Mr. Davis was brought to tears several times during the presentation as video clips of his illustrious thirty-year television and film career were played on the huge eight-foot video walls prior to the presentation by co-hosts Vivica A. Fox and Vanessa Williams.
Attendees came from around the world including Los Angeles, Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa, to witness this historic ground breaking TV recording session. The Superfest pressroom was filled with reporters, writers, radio announcers and TV producers from over seventy-five (75) different press entities from around the country and Europe.
