HOLLYWOOD, CA (Oneness) - Top music industry artists, songwriters, and producers gather for the 2005 Songwriters' Summit for Oneness, November 19th 2005 at the Jim Henson Studio in Hollywood
Dylan reminded us that "Times they are a changin'", Marley moved a generation to "Get Up, Stand Up". Now 50 of the top songwriters, producers, musicians and artists in Los Angeles join to write the soundtrack for today. With inspiration provided by a renewed conversation on race in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, participants in this year's event will be challenged to write music of healing, unity and justice.
Hosted by the non-profit organization, Oneness, The Songwriter's Summit is a unique event where the only agenda is about making music that makes a difference. "If there is anything positive Katrina left with us, it's a renewed conversation about race and equity in America," says co-founder and marketing director Dennis Stafford. "In a time when new questions are being raised surrounding issues of race and class, this year's event is particularly significant," adds KC Porter, Three-time Grammy winning producer and co- founder of Oneness.
Oneness supporters include Santana, Quincy Jones, B.B. King, Sarah McLachlan, and others. Previous participants include the legendary Lamont Dozier (Barbra Streisand, Phil Collins), Andreas Carlsson (Celine Dion, 'NSync), Kenisha Pratt (Brandy), Sami McKinney (Anita Baker, Patti LaBelle), Allan Rich (Whitney Houston), Narada Michael Walden (Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey), Pamela Phillips Oland (Frank Sinatra, Selena), KC Porter (Santana, Ricky Martin), Mathew Wilder (No Doubt), Dave Merenda (Sarah McLachlan), and others. Note that the songwriters' summit for oneness is an "invitation only" event.
