Atlanta, GA (Arrow RecordingS) – In an unprecedented move certain to signal a subtle shift in radio, Arrow Recording artist Canton Jones makes his debut on New York's KISS-FM this Sunday, beginning at 5:00a.m. Hailed as the industry's hip-hop prophet, Jones will co-host KISS Inspirations on WRKS 98.7FM, the number one Gospel program in the tri-state area. Canton will be joined by Pastor Taffi L. Dollar, world-renown author, teacher, and co-pastor of World Changers Church International. A true visionary with a penchant for staying on the cutting edge, Pastor Taffi founded Arrow Records in 1998. The two join ranks with past celebrity hosts Kirk Franklin,
Israel Houghton, and
Donnie McClurkin for five hours of music, fellowship and an awesome opportunity to promote the national release of last year's classic, The Password. Dubbed 'Access Granted,' the new disc was released last week with seven hot new tracks, five new songs and exclusive access to bonus video footage on the web.
Now on his fourth album, Canton Jones continues to dominate the holy hip-hop arena. A constant fixture on the gospel music charts, this Deerfield Beach, Florida native is leading a movement of Christian rap artists with the passion, drive and lyrical skills to change the hip-hop game forever. Beyond that, he rolls like many of the music industry's hottest stars – flossing Sean John, Rocawear and custom-made Air Force Ones, pushing a black drop-top Mercedes Benz on 24s, and standing at the forefront of a music genre on the edge of breakthrough. Jones has thousands of loyal fans to prove it. He regularly performs alongside the industry's top names – from David Banner's 'Heal the Hood' Concert, Vibe Music Fest, and the Miami Spring Fest to Bobby Jones' Gospel Industry Retreat, MegaFest '05, and the Gospel Choice Awards – clocking 200 appearances across the country and reaching over 300,000 people in 2005 alone. Most recently, he landed Radio One's coveted 'Dirty Award' for holy hip hop at the first-ever awards show honoring dirty south artists Ludacris, David Banner and Young Jeezy, among others.
This diversity only partly explains Canton's incredible popularity. With his last album still on Billboard's top Gospel charts, strong radio rotation across the country, three Grammy nominations, two Gospel Choice Awards and a 2006 Stellar nomination under his belt, Jones is by far one of the most versatile artists in the industry. Part singer, songwriter, producer, and vocal arranger, his music pays homage to southern Florida roots with bouncy chords, edgy party tracks, and heavy bass beats – with lyrics that address real-life issues especially for the nation's youth. And he keeps it real crunk.
