London, UK (SONY BMG
Music Entertainment (UK)) - Minutes after his amazing win, we caught up with Shayne for his very first interview as winner of the X-Factor.
Shayne on his teenage fans: That's just flattering. If you could see me now, it makes me blush. It's so nice to have all that kind of support.
On his girlfriend: From the start, we had a talk. And I said if I make it to the show, we know what things could happen, like female fans throwing themselves at you. I got told all this, but we had a good talk and she understood everything. She's been brilliant.
On his mum: The reason I'm doing all of this is for my mum. She deserves the best, she's brought up seven kids, she can relax now and not be stressed out every Saturday night with whether I'm going or not. She can just relax and think, 'My son's done it for me.' Thanks to The X Factor, I will be able to take her away somewhere really nice. She deserves it because it was hard bringing us all up and she did a great job. I want to give something back.
On his mum's reaction: She just said: 'I love you and I'm so proud of you.'
On how his life has changed: I don't think it's much different. I mean the only major difference is that I've been singing in front of millions of people but I'm still the same person I was before I entered this competition.
On whether he'd have been discovered without the X-Factor: I don't think so. Because we were just doing the working men's clubs and I just loved doing the working men's clubs - that was the life for me at that time. But I never expected to be noticed by anybody, so that's why I went for this by myself.
On Louis Walsh: I'm so glad I've got Louis as a mentor, he's helped me so much. I know he believes in me. I'm so grateful he put me in his final four and he's given me this opportunity to make something of my life.
On his X-Factor rivals: Everyone was so talented. They deserved to win as much as I did.
On his final X-Factor performance: I was so scared if I'm honest. I have never been so scared in all my life. I actually thought Andy was going to win. I thought Andy performed fantastic and so did Journey South. Andy was shaking my hand and I think it was a genuine smile on his face. "He said 'You deserve it, you have done fantastic'.
On being announced the winner: I still can't believe it - it just hasn't sunk in it at all. When I was up on stage with Andy, I was certain I'd lost. I was just so excited when Kate Thornton read my name out. I was jumping up and down like a kid. The first thing I did was look for my mum in the audience.'
On winning: Even though the bookies said I was the favourite, I honestly never expected to win in a million years. It's just something I never thought would happen. I'm just over the moon. I just want to thank everyone that voted for me.
On the money: It's not all about the money. Definitely not. The reason I entered this competition was because I love singing, that's all I wanted to do. It's not all about the money or the fame, for me.
On 'That's My Goal': I'm really excited about the single and I'm just so glad it's my song now. I can't wait to get out there and start performing it for all those people who supported me because they're the reason I stayed and I'm so glad it's my song.
On New Year's Resolutions: Just to succeed.
