While Rush fans endure the longest gap between new recordings in the band's 27-year history, word has come from its Toronto studio that work on album No. 17 is nearly complete. In fact, the trio -- Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart -- has finished the recording phase with co-producer/engineer Paul Northfield (Hole, Marilyn Manson), and they are now mixing the results. Atlantic/Anthem Records has announced a planned early spring release for the still-unnamed album, the first Rush studio effort since 1996's Test for Echo. (The band released the triple-live Different Stages in 1998.) Rush is expected to follow the new album's release with its first concert dates since 1997.
