NEW YORK (By Gary Davis/ World Wrestling Entertainment) - Atlantic recording group
P.O.D. is set to perform WWE SmackDown
Superstar Rey Mysterio's entrance them at WrestleMania 22, as he hits the ring for the biggest match of his career, competing for the World Heavyweight Championship.
On Sunday, April 2, WWE will present WrestleMania 22 at Rosemont's Allstate Arena in Chicago before a capacity crowd of more than 15,000 people from 16 countries and 43 states. WrestleMania 22 also can be purchased on pay-per-view through local cable affiliates or satellite providers, and will be seen in more than 90 countries.
P.O.D. is a natural fit to perform Mysterio's infectious entrance music, not just because of its musical style; both P.O.D. and Rey proudly hail from San Diego, Calif. - affectionately known as "The 619" - and are longtime friends. P.O.D. will bring their unique sound to a new recording of Rey Mysterio's "Booyaka 619" to be featured on the upcoming WWE/Columbia Records release, "Wreckless Intent," which will arrive in stores and online nationwide this spring.
"Testify," P.O.D.'s current release, is their most provocative and powerful work to date. The album made a top 10 debut on the Billboard 200, and the lead single "Goodbye for Now" recently scored the band its fourth No. 1 video on MTV's "Total Request Live", an unprecedented achievement for a rock band. The band will begin a headlining tour across the country in mid-April (for the complete tour itinerary and more information about P.O.D., go to https://www.payableondeath.com).
Since the release of their first Atlantic album just six years ago, P.O.D. has logged a remarkable array of achievements, including worldwide sales exceeding seven million, three Grammy nominations, sold-out international concert tours, and a series of top-charting rock radio hits.
P.O.D. has made a number of major TV appearances this year to support "Testify." Among them are performances on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," MTV's "Total Request Live," NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and NBC's "Last Call with Carson Daly." Soon, WrestleMania, the grandest stage of them all, will be added to that list of live performances.
