NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Rapper
Snoop Dogg has been nominated for Stoner of the Year at
High Times magazine's 3rd Annual Stonys, which will be held March 3 in New York.
Snoop, who has had his fair share of run-ins with the law over his use of marijuana, is up against actors Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back), Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie 2), and Owen Wilson (Zoolander, The Royal Tenenbaums). Snoop is being honored for his work in The Wash, Bones, Baby Boy, and Training Day.
This year, the powers that be at High Times have added the category of Best Original Song in a Movie. The nominees are Afroman's "Because I Got High" (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back), the Roots' "Lion Heart" (Brooklyn Babylon), Method Man and Redman's "Part II" (How High), and the Wiseguys' "Start the Commotion" (Zoolander).
The only other music-related category is Best Soundtrack: Blow, Grateful Dawg, How High, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and The Wash are this year's nominees. The rest of the categories are for Best Movie, Best Stoner Movie, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Pot Scene, Best Psychedelic Scene, and others.
Method Man and Redman's How High and Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's The Wash also scored nominations for Best Stoner Movie, while actress-singer Bijou Phillips is up for Best Actress for Bully.
The awards ?- which celebrate the counterculture in cinema and marijuana-friendly films -- will be held at B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill in New York. Performers in the High Times Cannabis Cup Band jam after the awards, and presenters for the ceremony will be announced shortly. As of now, Snoop Dogg is the only confirmed artist to appear.
