NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Add four new 2002 Soul Train Music Award nominations to six GRAMMY Award nominations and two American Music Awards and what do you get? The year of Alicia Keys.

The R&B newcomer leads the pack of nominees for the 16th Annual Soul Train Music Awards, announced by fellow artist Faith Evans from the Soul Train soundstage in Los Angeles on Thursday (Feb. 7).

Keys received nods for Best R&B/Soul Album, Female, and Best R&B/Soul or Rap Album of the Year for Songs in A Minor; Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist of the Year; and Best R&B/Soul Single, Female, for "Fallin.'" Keys will also receive the special Sammy Davis, Jr. Award for Female Entertainer of the Year.

Close behind Keys with three nominations each were the Isley Brothers (for Best R&B/Soul Single, Group, Band, or Duo; the Michael Jackson Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video for "Contagious"; and Best R&B/Soul Album, Group, Band, or Duo for Eternal) and India.Arie (for Best R&B/Soul Album, Female, for Acoustic Soul; Best R&B/Soul Single, Female, for "Video"; and Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist of the Year).

The late Aaliyah also received three posthumous nominations for Best R&B/Soul Single, Female, for "Rock the Boat"; Best R&B/Soul Album, Female; and Best R&B/Soul or Rap Album of the Year for Aaliyah.

Aaliyah
"You can't mention Aaliyah or her album or anything about her without thinking about how tragic and untimely her death was," Evans told. "Although she's not here, in a way I feel like this is what she worked so hard for on this album -- to see these [nominations]. So in spirit, she is here and able to see her work did not go unnoticed."

One notable surprise in this year's nominations was 'NSync, which snuck in a nod for Best R&B/Soul Single, Group, Band, or Duo for "Gone." "'NSync was a pleasant surprise," said Evans. "I would definitely not mind seeing them win."

Soul Train creator Don Cornelius kicked off the nomination announcements -- centered around a booze and food fiesta for guests in attendance -- with a poignant L.A. observation: "All you have to do is say 'party' and niggas come from everywhere," he said.

The 16th Annual Soul Train Music Awards, co-hosted by Evans, Arsenio Hall, Yolanda Adams, and Shemar Moore, will be taped live from the Los Angeles Sports Arena on March 25 and will air sometime between March 30-April 7.
