 MIAMI, Fl. (BMI) - BMI today announced that the music performing rights organization's 9th annual Latin Music Awards will be held May 8th at the Diplomat Hotel & Resort in Hollywood, Florida. The awards recognize the songwriters and publishers of the most played Latin songs on U.S. radio and television from the company's repertoire of approximately 4.5 million musical works from around the world. A Latin Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Publisher of the Year will be announced during the evening. Previous BMI Latin Award winners include Shakira, Estefano, Gloria & Emilio Estefan, Kike Santander, Jose de Jesus Navarro (Banda Arkangel R-15), A.B. Quintanilla, Mario Quintero (Los Tucanes de Tijuana) and Los Tigres del Norte. The black tie, invitation-only awards ceremony will be held during the Billboard Latin Music Conference & Awards 2002 taking place at the nearby Eden Roc Resort. This is the fourth time the BMI Latin Awards will be held in the Miami area; they have also been staged in Los Angeles and San Antonio.
