NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Columbia Records is releasing "Mended," the eagerly-awaited second English language album from international pop/salsa superstar Marc Anthony.
"
Mended" is Anthony's first English language offering since 1999's triple platinum breakthrough "Marc Anthony" and is the artist's first new album, in any language, since the Latin music double platinum "
Libre"; released in November 2001, "
Libre" remained at the #1 slot on Billboard's Latin music charts for 14 straight weeks. Mended will be in stores on Tuesday, May 21.
"Mended" reunites Anthony with co-writer/producer Cory Rooney, executive producer of "Marc Anthony" and co-writer, with Marc, of the global hit "I Need To Know." The Rooney co-penned single "I've Got You" (which is scheduled to impact Top 40 radio on April 23) blends contemporary dance rhythms with Anthony's soaring imploring vocals. Like "Marc Anthony," "Mended" showcases Anthony's remarkable vocal and musical range, from heart-pulling ballads to irresistible dance-floor grooves.
Following the release of "Mended," Anthony will embark on his first major North American tour in nearly two years beginning in July.
Marc Anthony has been hailed as the "reigning king of salsa" by The New York Times, which praised his "flawless singing" while calling him "somebody who could compete with the great pop figures of the (20th) century."
Yet, Anthony's success has not been limited to the music world. He was cast by music legend Paul Simon in the Broadway musical "The Capeman" and has graced the silver screen with significant roles in Martin Scorsese's "Bringing Out the Dead" and Stanley Tucci's "Big Night." He also appeared in "The Substitute," "Hackers," and, most recently, in the Showtime original film "In the Time of the Butterflies."
One of his fans in Spanish Harlem - quoted in a profile of Anthony which ran in The New Yorker - summed up Marc Anthony with a memorable image: "He is like a flame that walks." "Mended" rekindles the sizzling sound of that flame.
