 Los Angeles, CA (IFERS/ www.ifers.org) - In association with ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and ACM Computers in Entertainment, the Institute for Education, Research, and Scholarships (IFERS) https://www.ifers.org will present the 2006 ACM CIE Annual Scholarship Awards Reception with the special guest appearance of the legendary Quincy Jones. Three students from the UK and Finland will be awarded the $15,000 scholarships. Co-sponsored by the American Film Institute (AFI), the event will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the American Film Institute https://www.afi.com in Hollywood, California. The live auction on the day of the event includes 1-hour individual brainstorming sessions with Alan Kay, Seamus Blackley, and Seymour Papert. Alan Kay is one of the earliest pioneers of object-oriented programming, personal computing, and graphical user interfaces. A co-creator of the Xbox gaming platform at Microsoft, Seamus Blackley is an agent at the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Seymour Papert is considered the world's foremost expert on how technology can provide new ways for children to learn.
