NASHVILLE, TN. (Darryl Worley Official Website) - Country star Darryl Worley's new radio single, "I Just Came Back (from a War)," shipped to radio last week and is already striking an emotional chord with program directors and listeners across the country, debuting this week at 43 on the Mediabase/Aircheck chart and jumping to 45 with a bullet on the BDS/R&R chart.
The single is currently Top Ten at KSCS/Dallas with impressive airplay in Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Tampa, and Albuquerque, and is building strong.
'I Just Came Back (from a War)' appears on Worley's Here and Now album, his 903 Music debut, available at retail on November 21.
Bill Mayne, 903 Music's VP of Promotion, comments, "We sent the Here and Now album advance to radio and got a lot of calls about the 'I Just Came Back' track. We didn't intend for it to be a single yet but after station testing and listeners lighting up phones with an over-the-top heartfelt response, it immediately took on a life of its own." He adds, "It appears that Darryl's writing has once again touched the heartbeat of the country by spotlighting something quietly happening every day."
The song, co-written with Wynn Varble, was inspired by a war veteran Worley met who was having a difficult time adjusting to life back home after being in a war zone for many months. Worley says, "It made me think about what it must be like for all the soldiers, who have served in conflicts past and present, to adjust to being back home. The strain of war must be incredible." He adds, "This song is from the soldier's perspective and the message is, 'Hey man, cut me a little slack if I need a little time to re-adjust here. I'll get there but be a little patient with me - I just came back from a war."
Worley continues, "This song is about compassion and healing. It's about having understanding and patience for a fellow human being who needs to feel the love after what they've just been through."
Worley debuted on the country charts with a trio of top-15 hits in 2000-01, "When You Need My Love," "A Good Day to Run" and "Second Wind." His breakthrough year was 2002 when Worley's touching ballad "I Miss My Friend," the title tune to his second CD, became his first No. 1 hit. After he spent Christmas 2002 entertaining America's troops in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Uzbekistan, he came home and wrote the patriotic anthem 'Have You Forgotten?,' which became his second No. 1 song and remained at the top of the charts for six weeks. In the summer of 2004, 'Awful Beautiful Life' was released and soon rocketed up the country music charts to become a multi-week No. 1 record in January 2005.
This December, Worley once again travels to the Persian Gulf region to meet and perform for troops during a USO holiday tour.
