Nashville , TN (Jason Michael Carroll Official Website) -
Jason Michael Carroll is a man who inspires believers – from multi-Platinum pop songstress, Jewel, to longtime
John Mellencamp producer Don Gehman, from a host of Nashville 's top songwriters to his label, Arista Nashville, home to such multi-million-selling artists as Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, and Brad Paisley. And for the rich-voiced, 28-year-old Carroll, his Gehman-produced debut disc showcases the heart, energy, and versatility that define Jason Michael and his music.
With his self-penned first single, 'Alyssa Lies,' impacting country radio this month, fans will get their first chance to hear Carroll's depth as songwriter and song interpreter, as the father of four unveils a heart-searing portrait of child abuse, told alternately from the eyes of a child and her father as they realize the truth of an abused schoolmate.
From the poignancy of 'Alyssa Lies' to the driving beat of 'Anywhere USA,' the man who grew up the son of a fundamentalist preacher – in a home where secular music was strictly taboo – found his calling by rebelling against the strict upbringing in his North Carolina home. Crediting music with saving his life, Carroll not only found a career, but a means of _expression and a way to reach out: 'If I'm upset, I go and write a song,' he says, 'that's my release.' That raw talent, both in songwriting and performing, caught the eye of Hootie & the Blowfish manager Rusty Harmon by way of a local TV talent competition and ultimately led to Carroll recording for Arista Nashville.
In addition to tapping an incredible well of such noted songwriters as Craig Wiseman, Terry McBride, Jim Collins, Brett James, and Rivers Rutherford, among others, Carroll's album will feature four tracks he wrote or co-wrote, including 'No Good in Goodbye,' a duet with Jewel, co-penned with Jewel and Shaye Smith.
Carroll has been actively visiting radio in support of the new single and the forthcoming album, set to arrive in early 2007.
