MADISON, Wis (Sony Media Software) -- ACIDplanet.com(R), one of the Internet's premier sites for user-generated music and video content and computer-based recording and remixing tools, has launched a new video mash-up contest featuring audio and video clips from the upcoming
Tenacious D "Pick of Destiny" film. Aspiring producers can now create their own cut from video footage taken straight from the new
Tenacious D film, "Pick of Destiny" starring Jack
Black and written and directed by director, producer and rock star Liam "My United States of Whatever" Lynch (also behind The Sifl N Olly Show and the Lynchland Podcast). By hosting this video mash-up contest, ACIDplanet.com introduces more people to not only the film, "Pick of Destiny" but to the concept of video remixing by providing incredible content and world-class production software.
The film "Pick of Destiny" tells the story of Tenacious D, a rock band formed by actor/comedian Jack Black. The film also stars Tenacious D's lead guitarist, Kyle Gass and features guest appearances by executive producer Ben Stiller and rock icon Dave Grohl. If you like to laugh and you like music and you like to rock, the Tenacious D film, "Pick of Destiny" is a great place to enjoy all three. The film hits theatres on November 22 and ahead of launch, ACIDplanet is giving aspiring video editors the opportunity to participate in a video mash-up contest for the movie.
"When you leave the film you should feel like you just left a Tenacious D concert -- with your ears ringing from awesome songs and your stomach hurting from laughing," says writer and director Liam Lynch. "I wanted part of the film to feel like an event, like you've been at a concert feeling that excitement and anticipation right before it starts."
An extreme technophile himself, Lynch thinks video mash-up contests are a great way to get creative. "I think it's really cool and really fun that ACIDplanet.com is doing a 'Pick of Destiny' video mash-up contest because it gets people in on being creative and being a part of the process," says Liam Lynch. "I think that anything that gets people thinking and experimenting is good, says Lynch. "It doesn't matter the medium -- music or video mash-ups -- it's all exploring technology."
Jack Black and Kyle Gass, lead Guitarist for Tenacious D, helped the director and editor with the editing process for "Pick of Destiny" as well. Jack Black explains, "Liam would go in with the editing team and they would work up a rough cut of the whole thing and then we would go in and watch the whole film. Then we would go through and just make sure that all the takes were the best ones."
This ACIDplanet.com contest is the only video-mash-up contest to be done for the Tenacious D film. Users must upload their mash-up of "Pick of Destiny" to ACIDplanet.com by 12:00AM Midnight on November 27, 2006 in order to be eligible for the contest. One grand prizewinner will receive over $6,000 in video production gear and software.
"We're truly excited to be offering this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with one of the greatest rock bands of all time," states Dave Chaimson, VP of Marketing for Sony Media Software. "This is above and beyond the typical event we've offered in the past at ACIDplanet. The D has delivered some truly awesome material for fans to work with and we have now entered the video mash-up realm in a huge way with a rockin' big bang, courtesy of Tenacious D."
