Sydney,AU. (SONY BMG MUSIC Entertainment) -- In conjunction with New York's St Ann's Art School, Lou Reed's 1973 landmark album 'Berlin' is set to make its theatrical world debut at the 2007 Sydney Festival. Happening from January 18-20 at the State Theatre and featuring the Velvet Underground icon himself, the world first event will feature all the epic 'Berlin' tracks from Beerhalle staccato to 'Sad Song' accompanied by a choir led by Antony of Antony And The Johnsons. You don't get much better than that! Tickets on sale now. New York's St Ann's Art School and the Sydney Festival have joined forces to present to Lou Reed fans an epic theatrical representation of one of his greatest albums yet, 'Berlin'.

Lou Reed himself will perform the cult body of work live for the first time ever in the theatricalized concert version of the album which will be accompanied by a choir led by Antony of Antony And The Johnsons.

Directed by the producer of the 'Berlin' album, Bob Ezrin (who also produced Pink Floyd's 'The Wall') and record producer Hal Willner in collaboration with an all-star creative cast, the event will debut in New York before travelling to Sydney where it will be performed for just three nights from January 18-20.

In 1973, after the runaway success of his Top 20 hit 'Transformer' (which included the Top 20 classic 'Walk on the Wild Side'), Reed broke the pop mould and produced 'Berlin' to critical furor.

The New York Times called the album "one of the strongest, most original rock records in years", and Rolling Stone raved that, "It is not an overstatement to say that Berlinwill be the Sgt. Pepper of the Seventies".

A highly ambitious, psychologically exhausting, and ultimately surprising work, the dark and brooding the concept album about tormented, broken hearted addicts in love in the outskirts of a divided city (Berlin) touched many for its universal themes.

Over time, 'Berlin' has come to be known not just as a cult favorite, but as an influential masterwork and this will be the first time it has ever been performed live by the master himself.
