"Times were always tough coming from a big family, money was always low," says La La "Being broke, feeling like s*** never changes and hood life are strong themes in my music. Struggle and real life, that's what I'm all about. My music has been what has saved me from myself and the street," describes La La.
La La is from Van Nuys, CA but has lived all over Los Angeles. She is the oldest of five sisters in a large Mexican-American family. Her music is based on life experiences and her early poetry. Expression through music and performing has always been very important to La La and helped her decide to leave college (UC Santa Barbara and UCLA) in order to pursue her dream of being a voice for the streets and the real experience of growing up female and Latin in Los Angeles.
La La put her thoughts to music then put the music up on MySpace and the music fans reacted swiftly and passionately. Soon influential west coast radio stations, like Power 106 (LA), KDAY (LA), XMOR (San Diego), KSEQ (Fresno), and KCAQ (Oxnard/Ventura) began playing "La La La", a tale of growing up. Melee Entertainment President and Priority Records (NWA, Ice Cube, Mack 10) founder, Bryan Turner, sought her out. And the story is just beginning.
While the derby winning label that will release her album is still undecided, La La is busy working with the hottest producers and artists as she puts the finishing touches to her debut release. Top beatmakers, including Fredwreck, Jellyroll, Bo Dozier and Nephew (known for work with Mack 10) take on the production duties. Major artists including Mack 10 (Westside Connection), B Real (Cypress Hill) and Nate Dogg add their own flavor to La La's big debut. Look for her at local clubs and listen to the Pretty Brown Sound on the radio.
