New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Club World Awards) - The 5th Annual Club World Awards, hosted by Club Systems International, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2007 'disco globes.' The awards ceremony - held on Wednesday, March 21 at Opium Garden – was a huge success, drawing over 500 industry, celebrity and media attendees, including Deep Dish, Ferry Corsten,
Danny Tenaglia and MySpace hottie Tila Tequila.
The big story of the night was the city of New York, which claimed seven of a possible 11 major titles. Pacha took three of the four globes for which it was nominated ('Best Superclub,' 'Best New Venue,' and 'Best Sound System'); and Crobar snagged two of three (losing 'Best Superclub' to Pacha, but picking up 'Best Resident LJ' and 'Best Resident VJ' for faithful operators Mike D and Chris Biggins & Cagan Yuksel). Sullivan Room won its second NightStalker Award (decided by public online voting), and Asseteria promoter Rob Fernandez claimed its third consecutive 'Best Party' crown.
Breaking up the NY sweep, newly renovated music-first club Smart Bar Chicago beat out NYC incumbent and two-year winner Cielo for 'Best Club.' Meanwhile, Miami snagged disco globes for longtime Space resident Oscar G ('Best Resident DJ'), and classic lounge Prive ('Best Lounge').
Ceremony highlights include Deep Dish's Dubfire asking 'Best Club' co-presenter Tila Tequila if she preferred Cuervo or Patron; a svelte and hat-less Danny Tenaglia presenting 'Best Resident DJ' to an overwhelmed Oscar G; Fish Go Deep's Tracey K performing worldwide club hit 'Cure And The Cause' barefoot; the irrepressible guys from Second Sun making 'Best LED Product' seem like the most exciting award of the night; Miami door personality Alan T maintaining order with his omnipresent megaphone.
The geographical focus of the winners can't be explained by that of the judges, who – revealed for the first time in this release – are from all over the country, and are well-traveled besides. They are: DJ Times editor Jim Tremayne (Port Washington), VJ wizard Vello Virkhaus (L.A.), Deep Dish's world-traveling tech director Noiseboy, Club Systems International technical editor John Landers (Miami), nightlife veteran and club designer Steve Lewis (New York), Tiesto tour manager Craig Pettigrew (Toronto), Club World host and producer/DJ The Scumfrog (New York), progressive DJ Sandra Collins (L.A.), AM Only booking agent Matt Rodriguez (New York), and club consultant Wyatt Magnum (Houston, Texas).
