MEMPHIS, TN. (Top40 Charts/
Memphis Industries) - Smart, fierce and focused, 7 piece pop machine The
Pipettes are a cure for cookie cutter rock-induced boredom. With their clever nods to the pristine pop of Phil Spector and the Supremes (not to mention
Bananarama and Bikini Kill), the
Pipettes are hell bent on making a new sound for RIGHT NOW, one catchy tune at a time.
At the core of this unique pop group are three whip smart females, all-singing, all-dancing RiotBecki, Rosay and Gwenno. They formed in 2003 with a simple yet subversive idea: to put an end to "stodgy, standardized" boy rock by embracing their love of classic Brill building pop—and polka dot dresses.
Following a string of successful shows with the likes of Sleater Kinney, Maximo Park and, earlier this year, Amy Winehouse, the Brighton-based group will be releasing their first official US EP Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me on June 5 on Cherrytree/Interscope Records.
For right now, think of Your Kisses as a warm up for the North American release of their debut full length We Are The Pipettes, which is due out later this summer (August 28). The album has already turned heads on the other side of the Atlantic and will include the band's hit UK single "Pull Shapes". Said NME, "The quality of life on earth is doubled tenfold by the existence of The Pipettes."??The Pipettes are entertainers in the truest sense of the word. On the live front, their shows are a winning mix of synchronized dance routines and heartfelt enthusiasm. We're just saying, these girls give any other band in the biz who's playing live these days a serious run for their money. Just ask the UK's Independent, who gushed "at every gig, they slapped huge grins on everyone's faces."
This June, the group will embark on another round of US shows that are sure to cement a place for the Pipettes in the hearts of their fans and fans to be. Get your own grin slapped on in one of the following cities:
