Nowadays, rappers tend to make music that is specifically aimed for the clubs and sometimes the street, but most of the time, the lyricism focuses entirely on either how cool they are, how tough they are and what kind of cars they drive in.
Canibus isn't one of the rappers.
Instead of following the aforementioned formula, Canibus (real name Germaine Williams) truly makes the listener think as he addresses topics such as politics, religion, war, women and even about rap itself. With entertaining songs and intelligent subject matter, For Whom The Beat Tolls is a modern-day classic.
"I gave it 100% and the rhymes on there are explosive. There are some records that came out in the past and sometimes, the lyrics would be explosive, but the concepts were over people's heads," Canibus says. "At the same time, my fans are the ones who have always known me as someone that'll put their minds in overdrive. It's poetry, it's not just rap to me. I'm taking these concepts and trying to make them rhyme, so I'm not missing a beat."
Evidently, Canibus is the one For Whom The Beat Tolls.
