NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Manhattan Records/ Back Porch Records) - Noted Austin-based musician Alejandro Escovedo will be the subject of a documentary by Academy Award-winning director Jonathan Demme, it was announced by his record label, Back Porch Records. Demme, who in addition to his work on such notable films as "The Silence of the Lambs", "Philadelphia" and "Something Wild", has helmed acclaimed concert films featuring Talking Heads and Neil Young, will be shooting the Escovedo performance at the famed Las Manitas Mexican restaurant on Austin's Congress Avenue. Soon after, the restaurant - a longtime Austin fixture - is scheduled to be bulldozed to make room for a new hotel.

The film, as yet untitled and unscheduled, is set to feature Escovedo in his many musical incarnations, which range from garage-rock to working with his string quintet, and will showcase songs from his more than two-decades- long career up to his most recent highly-acclaimed release, "The Boxing Mirror."

Also on Escovedo's busy schedule are a summer tour in continued support of "The Boxing Mirror," and a plan to enter the Sunset Sound studio in LA with famed record producer Glyn Johns, whose resume includes such musical legends as The Who, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, and countless others. "Glyn Johns represents a vast part of rock and roll history and its future," said Escovedo, "it's an honor to be working with him on this project." Recording will commence in September with the album slotted for a spring 2008 release.

Dates for the summer tour are as follows:

8/16 Los Angeles, CA The Mint
8/17 San Francisco, CA Great American Music Hall
8/18 Santa Barbara, CA Lobero Theatre
8/24 Birmingham, AL Stokin the Fire
