NY (AP) - Palm Pictures will on Oct. 30 release the boxed set "American Roots Music," Billboard Bulletin reports. The four-CD collection, containing more than 75 tracks, is the companion to a four-hour PBS documentary series by producer/director Jim Brown and producer/editor Sam Pollard, which will air on four consecutive Mondays beginning Oct. 29. The shows will celebrate classic 20th-century folk, country, blues, gospel, Western swing, bluegrass, zydeco, Tejano, Native American, and Cajun music, and will feature archival performances by Bob Dylan, the Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Son House, Woody Guthrie, Bill Monroe, Clifton Chenier, and others. A companion book will be issued in November by Abrams Books/Rolling Stone Press. Palm will release two-disc DVD and four-tape VHS versions of the series on its initial PBS airdate.
