LOS ANGELES (Jewel Fans Website) - Singer-songwriter Jewel's next role on the big screen will likely be in the new film, Wave. Earlier this year the songwriter's production company, Magic Lantern Entertainment, purchased the Wave script, which was written by David Rothmiller and centers on the reunion of a mother and her estranged son in a small island community. "It's an independent film, and it's very sort of artist-driven," Jewel said of Wave. "It's a great piece."

Jewel and her manager-mother Lenedra Carroll founded Magic Lantern Entertainment. The pair will serve as executive producers of the Wave project.

Jewel previously co-starred opposite Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man) in director Ang Lee's 1999 Civil War drama, Ride With The Devil. Jewel said that she feels that Wave will be a fitting follow-up to Ride With The Devil.

"My first film was an Ang Lee film. It was a very tough act to follow, as you can imagine, and I thought I would finally just purchase a property that I believed in, I thought was a good story, and produce it and work it from the ground up. It's an ensemble piece, and I'd have one of the roles in it."

In related news, Jewel will kick off the next leg of her New Wild West solo acoustic tour of North America in support of This Way on November 7 at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.
