NEW YORK (Mitchubishi Press release) - French electronic music trio Telepopmusik, whose hypnotic debut album Genetic World was released earlier this year to great acclaim, will provide the soundtrack to the launch television ad campaign for the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV with their debut single, "Breathe."
Created by Deutsch LA as the latest evolution in Mitsubishi's popular "Wake Up and Drive" campaign, the inventive new spots present a young man's transition from confirmed bachelor to new husband to proud father in just 60 seconds. Described by the agency as "a classic story of boy-meets-girl, boy-still-hangs-with-buddies, boy-sometimes-wears-drag, boy-gets-married, boy-has-daughter," the spots will debut nationally the week of October 14th.
The campaign comes on the heels of the recent Mitsubishi Eclipse campaign that featured smash single "Days Go By" by U.K. dance trio Dirty Vegas. The commercial's runaway popularity helped launch the song to a #1 entry on Billboard's Hot Dance chart and helped propel Dirty Vegas's debut self-titled album to a top-ten entry on the Billboard Top 100 album chart.
The Telepopmusik single that drives the new Mitsubishi commercial, "Breathe," is a seductive, electronic siren song that pulses with the classic, jazz-inflected sound of Scottish guest vocalist Angela McCluskey.
Of "Breathe," Album Network said, "Picture Massive Attack jamming with Kraftwerk while Giorgio Moroder orchestrates...truly time-stopping." And, presciently, Billboard said the song is "sublime...in fact, it's the type of dreamy track that deserves attention on Madison Avenue."
Telepopmusik's Genetic World, the kaleidoscopic debut album that spawned "Breathe," was an instant underground favorite, called "glowing" by Pulse, "globe-tripping" by Spin, and "visionary" by CMJ.
