Marie Fredriksson's Brain Surgery Successful

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (Roxette Fans Website) - Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson's surgery on Monday (September 30) to remove a small tumor from her brain was a success.

The operation was conducted at the Karolinska Hospital in Sweden and there were no complications, reports the Expressen newspaper. "The surgery took almost four hours and the medical team was able to remove the entire tumor," Roxette manager Marie Dimberg said in a statement.

The 44-year-old singer-songwriter's husband Micke and children Josefin, 9, and Oscar, 5, joined her on Tuesday (October 1) in her private room. According to another Swedish paper, Aftonbladet, an entire section of the hospital is closed to the public for Fredriksson's security.

Fredriksson's musical partner in Roxette, Per Gessle, said, "Marie is a fighter. She will be back on her feet again."

On September 11, Fredrikkson fainted and struck her head on a sink at her home, suffering a concussion. On September 15, she was diagnosed with the tumor in the back of her head. Doctors are now examining the removed tumor and deciding on any future treatment.

"Marie is, under the circumstances, very well and wishes to thank all of you for the encouraging letters and emails that she has now received," Dimberg said. "Marie will spend the remainder of the year at home and she is looking forward to a full recovery as quickly as possible."
