Guerra, who was one of the most anticipated and critically acclaimed artists who performed last August, in NYC, as part of the 3rd Annual Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC), comes in at position #5 this week, with her last release Lotofire, on the CMJ (College Music Journal) N* Alternative college radio chart. Since the release of Guerra's latest album, Lotofire (Higher Octave, 2002), she has continued to catch the attention of the public to her musicstaying within the top albums on the popular CMJ N* Alternative college radio chart for 35 consecutive weeks; including charting on Radio Y Msica radio charts; and MTVLA and MTV-S music video charts.
Her music is a blend of alternative rock, trip-hop, drum n' bass, Brazilian beats with melodic guitar riffs. Her songs reveal a fervent commitment to herself as well as to the world; her provocative lyrics are alight with solitude, hope, nostalgia, and her own spiritual outlook. Musically and lyrically provocative, the album is backed by outstanding musicians. Among others, string virtuoso Chris Whitley charmed the CD with the sinewy magic of his National Dobro slide guitar; David Sardy worked his magic on his guitar; as well as experimental rock guitarist Marc Ribot, percussionist Larry Mullins, Vinicius Cantuaria on Brazilian percussion, and musician/producer Arto Lindsay served as a friend and consultant during the recording.
