LOS ANGELES (M. Branch Fans Website) - Having scored platinum success with her debut album, The Spirit Room, Michelle Branch isn't planning any major changes for the follow-up, targeted for a late March release. "If anything sounds different it's because I've grown up a lot," says Branch, who began writing Spirit's songs at 14. "I'm 19 now, and I've seen the world and I've met so many different people, experienced so many new things, and been through different relationships. I'll hopefully have a lot more interesting things to sing about. Also, I think my confidence has definitely grown with putting out a record and having success with it. I'm more confident with guitar and the different sounds I experiment with and the people I work with, so I think it will be up a notch." Branch claims to be unconcerned about matching her initial success: "There's always the talk of the sophomore slump, but I just wrote the songs I wanted to on the first record and it ended up working out, so I think that's my easiest bet. I'm going to stick to that formula until it doesn't work!"
