Chevelle and
Finger Eleven beginning March 1 and running through April 20. The band has enjoyed 300,000 downloads for a video of "Say Your Last Goodbye" on YouTube.com. About God Or Julie
In life sometimes one person's creation can inspire action. This appears to be the case within the lives of the players in NYC's God or Julie. Two brothers, Adam Johnson (25) and Jon Paul Johnson (24) began working on songs in 2006 that would also convince some musical heavyweights (Chevelle, Everclear & Buckcherry) to want to be the first to showcase them to the world by taking them out on the road, settling them out on a whirlwind jaunt around the states and back home.
The experience led to a tight, powerful rock and roll machine already road tested and emotionally battered by previous experiences, but filled with enough vitriol and passion to knock out their debut, This Road Before. With the help of David Bendeth (Paramore) and Aaron Johnson (The Fray), the album speaks succinctly to the heart of the matter. Right from the first stabs of piano chords on "Nothing Further from the Truth," there is a mesh of epic rock that tips the hat to masters like Queen and Alt-punk rockers My Chemical Romance within the same three minutes. Later there is an honest piece of mid tempo rock, the sweeping anthem "Say Your Last Goodbye", a song that has become the calling card for the band on Myspace and PureVolume.
The band's video (shot before the addition of Aaron Stern and Matt Hogan) has already garnered over 300,000 plays on YouTube. But God or Julie delivers a nice ballad in "Being Human." It's one of those songs that communicates all you want to say but could never find the words in the moments you need them the most.
After internalizing all of their collective struggles, successes, and downfalls, these young New Yorkers have been grabbing the ear of the music world and forcing it to pay attention to its sheer honesty and immediacy. Rarely does such a mature combination of energy and precision come together so well. The honesty of the music would also inspire embattled 23-year-old drummer looking to give up on music, Aaron Stern (previously of critically acclaimed Matchbook Romance) to join the band on tour to support this CD and launch the creative process towards the next phase. In addition to the current tour, God or Julie will also appear at this Years Bamboozle East music festival scheduled for early May 2008 in New Jersey.
