Tokyo (Reuters) - Oasis will release a new single this October with an album to follow soon after, promises Noel Gallagher. Speaking from Japan, where Oasis performed at the Fuji Rock Festival last Friday, the band's main creative force said, "We're halfway through recording a new album, we have a show in Thailand... and we leave to finish off the record."

Recently asserting that that Oasis' fifth studio set will be the most upbeat album since 1994's Definitely Maybe, the older Gallagher brother has penned songs like "Force of Nature" and "Shout It Out Loud" for the record. Noel is also handling the project's production duties and has approved songs from bassist Andy Bell (ex-Ride) and rhythm guitarist Gem Archer (ex-Heavy Stereo). As with the band's last effort, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Oasis vocalist Liam Gallagher will also get a songwriting credit, donating "Born With A Different Cloud."

Release of the single, which has yet-to-be named, will coincide with a series of U.K. concerts planned to celebrate Oasis' tenth anniversary. As a thank-you to their fans, the group has scheduled dates at smaller venues in London (October 7th and 8th), Manchester (October 10th and 11th) and Glasgow (October 13th and 14th). Tickets go on sale August 18th, exactly ten years after Oasis made their live debut at the Manchester Boardwalk in 1991.

In other news, a recently unearthed, five-track cassette of Noel Gallagher recordings will be the subject of an upcoming auction by Christies Auction House. Dubbed "Noel's Songs," it consists of the following tracks: "What's It Got To Do With You," "Hey You," "What's Been Happenin'" "But What If..." and "Gotta Have Fun."
