Police & Elvis Costello deliver stellar performances before packed house.
The Police kicked off their final tour last night in Ottawa with a revitalized show that included the addition of two new songs, "Bring On The Night" and "Demolition Man," to the list of hits that thrilled fans and critics alike during last year's tour.
This summer, as Sting, Stewart Copeland & Andy Summers return to North America to play their final area appearances, they'll perform in arenas, amphitheaters and stadiums. The tour will hit 47 cities, predominantly in those markets not previously visited in 2007. Prior to their final performance together on August 5th in New York, an additional 33 shows in North America and 18 performances in Europe will mark the end of the legacy that is The Police.
Joining The Police for the North American portion of the tour, Elvis Costello & The Imposters brought in the night with a raucous arrangement of songs spanning a career of 30 years. Along with long-time bandmates Steve Nieve (keyboards), Pete Thomas (drums) and Davey Faragher (bass, vocals), Elvis Costello's set included songs from his new record Momofuku as well as fan favorites: "Alison," "Everyday I Write The Book," "Watching The Detectives" and "Peace, Love & Understanding."
In between the shows throughout North America, The Police return to Europe for a number of prestigious festival events including performances at the Isle of Wight and Hyde Park Festivals in the UK, the TW Festival in Belgium, the Heineken Jammin' Festival in Venice, and BBK Live in Bilbao culminating with the Rock in Rio Festival in Madrid. Additional European dates include a return to France and Germany along with concert dates in Zurich, Belgrade, Chorzow and Valencia where The Police will perform in arenas and stadiums through June and July.
In 2007, The Police thrilled millions of fans around the globe during their much-heralded reunion tour, marking the 30th anniversary of the band's formation and their first tour since 1984. The current tour has played to over 2.5 million people on five continents and. has garnered numerous accolades including 'Major Tour of the Year' (Pollstar), 'Top Selling' and 'Top Tour of the Year' (Billboard) as well as the People's Choice award for 'Favorite Reunion Tour of 2007.'
