NEW YORK (Madonna Fans Website) - After Madonna's new film, Swept Away, bombed terribly in the U.S. last month, the movie will not be shown in Britain, home country of her director/husband Guy Ritchie. "Following the disappointing box office results in the U.S., Guy Ritchie's Swept Away will not be released theatrically in the U.K.," said a Columbia Tristar spokesperson in a statement released Friday (Nov. 8). The remake of the 1974 film of the same name premiered in the U.S. on Oct. 11, raking in only $375,000 in 196 theatres in first-weekend box office receipts. The film has also received some of the worst reviews for a movie since Mariah Carey's Glitter.
