LOS ANGELES (Vanessa Carlton Fans Website) - The original version of Vanessa Carlton's new video for her latest single, "Pretty Baby" has been "banned" by MTV airplay due to a scene depicting "bondage," the pop newcomer contends.

Vanessa Carlton said that "the ending of the video got banned from MTV. There's this twist in the video where I end up taping up my boyfriend because of, you know, the reasons that you'll have to see when you see the video. And there's a no-bondage rule on MTV. So, it didn't go over well."

An MTV spokesperson counters, explains: "We don't ban videos at MTV. We have a standards department like every other network." When there are issues with content, "we will have a conversation with the [artist's] label, have a back-and-forth," in order to find a solution.

This was the case with "Pretty Baby," according to the spokesperson, resulting in the network and Carlton's label, Interscope Records, coming up with a version with an alternate ending. "It's airing on MTV right now," he says.

Vanessa Carlton said that there are just some things that television networks are not comfortable with. "There are little rules sometimes that are gonna bite you in the ass, unfortunately. You know, you can get by with showing your body, you can get by with you being your bruise, you being the character that kind of is gonna become hurt. But, you can't do it to others."
