Sydney, AU. (Top40 Charts/ EMI MUSIC Australia) - This year's APRA Music Awards have capped off a crazy year for our favourite frontman Silverchair's Daniel Johns, who scored the big trifecta at the awards on June 16. The Australian anthem of 2007/08 "Straight Lines", written by Johns, was named the APRA Song of the Year. The song was also declared APRA's (Australasian Performing Right Association) Most Played Australian Work.

We don't need to see the stats to believe it either. "Straight Lines" has absolutely dominated Australian airwaves since its release as the first single from Silverchair's "Young Modern" in March last year.

To put the cherry on top, this year marked the third time he was named the APRA Songwriter of the Year. He previously won the award in 2003 (for Diorama) and also in 1995 (jointly with Silverchair's Ben Gillies). His third award makes him the only songwriter in the APRA Music Awards history to be named Songwriter of the Year three times.

After last night Daniel Johns now has the unprecedented honour of winning both more APRA Awards AND more ARIA Awards than any other artist in history. And he just turned 29 years old. What an over-achiever!

"It's a serious honor to be recognized by your peers in the music community" Daniel Johns said "Writing songs means everything to me so to receive these awards for the art of songwriting feels particularly special."

Sally Seltmann (AKA New Buffalo), who was also nominated for Song of the Year for her composition "1234" (performed by Feist) performed Silverchair's "Straight Lines" in a twist that saw special music guests perform the 5 nominated Songs of the Year.

If you missed out on tickets for this year's event, Music MAX captured the night in a one-hour special called "They Write The Songs". The special features interviews and performances from the awards, and will screen on Music MAX at 8:30pm, Monday 30 June.
