KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Top40 Charts/ AEG Live/ Kansas City Power & Light District) - AEG LIVE, AMC Entertainment Inc. (AMC) and The Cordish Company announce today the grand reopening of The
Midland by AMC, Kansas Citys premiere indoor theatre for live concerts and events beginning Sept 9. The reopening of Kansas Citys premiere indoor performance venue will feature the best in concerts and events, including opening night with Leavenworth, Kan. native, Melissa Etheridge.
“The Midland is a gem among historic theatres, not only in Kansas City, but across the country,” said Joe Litvag, senior vice president, Midwest region at AEG LIVE. “Much like in its heyday, it will again host todays top musical touring acts, comedy shows, family shows and special events through creative and flexible programming.”
Located in downtown Kansas City on Main Street in the Power & Light District, the original Midland theatre opened in 1927 and hosted well-known artists throughout its history, most recently, Faith Hill, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Duran Duran, The Moody Blues, Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Buble and Jethro Tull. Upon its re-opening in September, the Midland will be home to a wide variety of musical artists, comedians and family entertainers as well as special, corporate and private events.
In July 2005, AMC and Cordish partnered to restore the theatres original grandeur by renovating non-historical portions of the theatre, while preserving its intricate historical features. In 2007, AEG LIVE joined the partnership to manage the theatres entertainment bookings and operations.
Additionally, AMC announces today its exclusive naming rights partnership with the theatre, a symbol of the companys investment in maintaining the historic Midlands presence in downtown Kansas City as a multi-dimensional entertainment venue.
“For more than 40 years, we have cared for the Midland, first operating it as a movie theatre and for the past 20 years as a live entertainment theatre,” said Frank Rash, senior vice president, strategic development and marketing, AMC. “We are pleased to partner with AEG LIVE and Cordish to maintain the beauty of the Midland, while upgrading many of the theatres amenities to exceed the needs of todays artists and guests.”
State-of-the-art sound, lighting and amenities will now enhance the historic ambiance providing a premium entertainment experience to guests of the theatre. The Midland will feature flexible seating configurations from standing to full dining, with live-show capacity ranging from 1,300-3,000. The loge level will offer plush VIP box seating with wait service and the balcony will feature new stadium seating. The venue will also be available for corporate events and private parties.
“The Midland by AMC serves not only as a landmark in Kansas City, but a cornerstone of the exciting new Kansas City Power & Light District,” said Jon Stephens, director of marketing for the Power & Light District. “We are honored to have injected new life into this historic theatre and are proud to offer amenities and features that are unparalleled.”
A remodeled banquet room, Windows on Main, will showcase dramatic views of the city and the Power & Light District from the fifth floor, and offers a full kitchen for any catering needs. Additionally, The Chandelier Bar will highlight the top floor of the theatre with a full-circle bar, four large LCD televisions and cabaret-style seating for shows, available through specially priced tickets from Ticketmaster for every show.
Finally, The Indie on Main, a music-centric bar on the ground floor of 13th and Main Streets, will boast a full bar, appetizers and lounge-style seating. The bar will open at 5 p.m. on show nights and ticket holders inside the bar will have the opportunity to enter the venue before doors open to the public. On non-show nights, The Indie on Main will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 4 p.m. – 3 a.m. For complete information please visit www.midlandkc.com.
