NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Atlantic Records) - Fueled By Ramen recording group
Phantom Planet has unveiled its summer tour schedule, including both headline shows as well as a major cross-country run alongside FBR labelmates, Paramore. The news comes amid a flurry of promotional activity and critical acclaim surrounding the California-based band's just-released label debut, "RAISE THE DEAD."
The headline dates will kick off on July 8th at Seattle, Washington's El Corazon, with additional stops in Portland and Orangevale, California (see itinerary below). Next, Phantom Planet will pair up with Paramore for the Grammy Award-nominated punk-pop quartet's eagerly anticipated "The Final RIOT - Paramore Summer Tour '08," beginning on July 29th at Henderson, Nevada's Henderson Pavilion. The multi-act bill - which also includes Jack's Mannequin and Paper Route - will then travel North America through an August 30th finale at the Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford, Connecticut.
As if that weren't enough, the band - which has only just wrapped its supporting role on the 2008 Honda Civic Tour with Panic At The Disco - will also share the stage at Costa Mesa, California's Pacific Amphitheatre with OneRepublic on July 12th, then travel to Japan for the upcoming Nano-Mugen Festival, set for July 20th at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama.
Phantom Planet has also teamed with crowdSPRING, the online marketplace for creative services, to find the most compelling t-shirt design for its upcoming tour. crowdSPRING will be accepting design submissions on its website - www.crowdspring.com - through June 25th. All designs will be reviewed and ranked by the band and its fans, with the favorite appearing on the t-shirt for this summer's tour. In addition, the winning designer will receive a $500 cash award and a shirt signed by the band members.
The band will warm up for its non-stop summer schedule with a live performance on CBS' "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," set for national broadcast tonight, Tuesday, June 24th (check local listings). In addition, Phantom Planet launched its album release with an outdoor concert performance on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" this past April.
"Do The Panic," the first single release from "RAISE THE DEAD," is currently featured in a new Verizon Wireless promotional spot, now showing in thousands of movie theaters across North America. The spot will continue to be shown through July.
Produced by Tony Berg (Aimee Mann, Pete Yorn, Nickel Creek), "RAISE THE DEAD" effortlessly mixes Phantom Planet's '60s pop influence with a 21st century slant that's particularly refreshing in today's increasingly homogenous musical landscape. Tracks like the glam-happy "Do The Panic" or the orchestral psychedelia of "I Don't Mind" see the band taking inspiration from such iconic artists as David Bowie, Love, and the Zombies, then recontextualizing them into something completely, uniquely their own. The twelve extremely diverse and dynamic songs on "RAISE THE DEAD" reaffirm Phantom Planet as one of the modern era's most exciting and ingenious rock n' roll bands.
"RAISE THE DEAD" has drawn a steady stream of enthusiastic reviews since its release this spring. In a four-starred rave, Alternative Press hailed the collection as "Phantom Planet's best," calling it "insistent," "spirited," and "brilliant." Rolling Stone awarded the album three-and-a-half stars, calling the title track "the best Strokes song in years." Spin declared "RAISE THE DEAD" to be "an impressive show of maturity," while Entertainment Weekly praised its "winsome melodies and swelling, thunderous choruses."
"RAISE THE DEAD" is Phantom Planet's fourth full-length collection, following 1998's highly praised "PHANTOM PLANET IS MISSING," 2002's "THE GUEST" (which included the now-classic "California," known far and wide as the theme song to Fox's "The O.C."), and 2004's "PHANTOM PLANET."
